Werking Kanna

Kanna was used in shamanic ceremonies by indigenous tribes in South Africa. The herb was supposed to awaken the animal spirit in humans, increasing their creativity. Furthermore, because of its stimulating effect, it was used during hunting. It was also a social remedy.

The psychoactive substances in kanna are mesembrine, 4'0-demethylmesembrenol, mesembrenone and tortuosamine. These substances have a mainly stimulating effect. They provide energy and/or a euphoric feeling.

At a high dosage you end up in a state that resembles an MDMA-high.
